Business Spotlight: Fuzzy Duck

FD staff 2

If you’ve spent any time walking the streets of downtown Wayzata, you may have noticed a hand-crafted sign hanging in front of an old blue house on Manitoba Avenue that reads “Fuzzy Duck.” Inside this restored 105-year-old structure, is one of Minneapolis’ oldest and more versatile creative boutique agencies. Celebrating their 25th anniversary in August of this year, Fuzzy Duck provides logos, print design, illustrations, websites, animation, copywriting and marketing consulting for a variety of clients in a wide array of industries.

Eddie Ulrich founded Fuzzy Duck as a sole proprietor and over the years has worn nearly every hat within the company. With a talented staff of full-time designers, developers and digital marketers now behind him, he oversees the daily operations of the company and serves as Creative Director – ensuring that the creativity and quality level remain high on all client projects.

Living only a mile from the office, Eddie and his wife, Beth, have four daughters and are both active community members. Eddie has volunteered his time and talent to local churches, schools, non-profits, community organizations and has served on several boards. In 2015, Eddie had the honor of being named TwinWest Chamber’s Entrepreneur of the Year.

Eddie’s business background combined with his love for visual art and writing has led to individual projects such as children’s books, screenplays, graphic novels, television pilots and even independent feature films.  Eddie believes these experiences have strengthened his role at Fuzzy Duck by honing his ability to simplify and convey clear and purposeful messages for Fuzzy Duck’s clients through visual and written mediums.

Over the past 25 years, Fuzzy Duck has had several different locations including Minneapolis, Chanhassen, Long Lake, and Minnetonka before finding their home in Downtown Wayzata. For the past five years, “The Ducks” (as they affectionately call themselves) have thoroughly enjoyed the Wayzata community and everything it has to offer. From daily coffee walks to lake cruises to frequenting the area restaurants – many of which happen to be Fuzzy Duck clients.

In fact, it’s nearly impossible to spend time in Wayzata and not see Fuzzy Duck’s design influences. They were the brainchild behind CōV’s name and helped design the restaurant’s logo, menus and website. They also used custom illustrations to establish a lively branded look for Baja Haus’ menus. Fuzzy Duck also has an ongoing working relationship with the City of Wayzata – designing the logo for the city’s sesquicentennial celebration and was commissioned to complete a series of illustrations to help promote the Wayzata Heritage Preservation Board.

Of course, Fuzzy Duck’s clientele certainly extends outside Wayzata’s city limits, working directly with global companies like Pentair and General Mills and collaborating with local advertising agencies on national brands like Coke Zero and US Bank.
