If you haven’t already optimized your social media account imagery for 2018, then now is the time to do it! Social media profile page designs change and evolve, and the image sizes and formats change with them. Whether it’s your profile pic, cover photo, post image, etc. each platform has its own standards for image sizes. It’s best to know and follow each platform’s image standards for optimal viewing.

Facebook

Cover Photo: Keep in mind that it’s important to pay attention to the design of your cover photo. These photos shouldn’t be too busy or filled with a lot of copy. Use a good quality photo or graphic that represents your brand.

  • Profile: 851 x 310 px
  • Fan/Business Page: 820 x 312 px
  • Group: 820 x 428 px
  • Event: 500 x 262 px

Profile Photo: If you are a business, your profile photo should be simple and not too busy. The photo should simply be your business logo optimized at the proper size.

  • 180 x 180 px

Post Photos: There are a couple different options here depending on what format of photo you’re wanting to post, landscape or portrait. Both are effective formats, however you will need to resize them to the optimal aspect ratios for best viewing.

  • Share Image: 1200 x 630 px
  • Share Link: 1200 x 630 px
  • Highlighted: 1200 x 1800 px

Instagram

Profile Photo: Your instagram profile photo will be in a circle format. So, when choosing or creating your profile pic, keep the round shape in mind as it will probably crop out space around it.

  • 180 x 180 px (circle format)

Post Photos: There are a few options for posts on instagram. However, if you stray away from the standard 1080×1080 square aspect ratio, you will wind up with blank space around your post. This isn’t necessarily terrible, but in my opinion in can create a bit of a messy look. However, if you create ALL of your posts using a portrait or landscape format, it can lend itself to a visually interesting account.

  • Square/Standard Image: 1080 x 1080 px
  • Vertical/Portrait Image: 1080 x 1350 px
  • Horizontal/Landscape Image: 1080 x 566 px

Twitter

Cover Photo: The twitter cover photo is a unique size. It’s very narrow, so creating a custom image or even using a specific photo will need to be thought out to best utilize this aspect ratio. Again, keep this cover photo clean and simple.

  • 1500 x 500 px

Profile Photo: Using your business’ logo for your twitter account is your best option. You’ll want to keep your profile and cover photo images the same across all social platforms for best branding practice and easy identification for anyone who may be looking for your business.

  • 200 x 200 px

Post Photos: Twitter has a couple options for posts. One size is best for links and the other size is best for photos. Keep these in mind when planning your content schedule.

  • Share Image: 1024 x 512 px
  • Share Link: 520 x 254 px

Pinterest

Profile Photo: Again, with pinterest’s profile pic, you’ll be dealing with a round size to consider.

  • 165 x 165 px (circle format)

Post Photos: There are a few options for posts for pinterest. The nice thing about pinterest, is that there is no height limit. So just focus on the width of your image and the height can be whatever your image or graphic is.

  • Share Pin: 236 x (any height) px
  • Board Display: 222 x 150 px, 100 x 100 px, 100 x 100 px

Google +

Cover Photo: Google’s cover photo is a nice size canvas for utilizing an eye-catching graphic or high-resolution photo. Just remember not to let your cover photos get too busy.

  • 968 x 545 px

Profile Photo: Again, another circle profile pic to be considered.

  • 250 x 250 px (round format)

Post Photos: There are a few size options available for google. Links, images and highlighted content posts.

  • Share Image: 502 x 282 px
  • Share Link: 502 x 282 px
  • Highlighted Image: 502 x 892 px

Linkedin

Linkedin has two layouts to consider. A personal profile and a business profile. Both of these layouts have different image size standards to consider.

Cover Photo: The Linkedin cover photos are very narrow (1584×396). Not only is the cover photo narrow, but the layout for the personal and business profile overlap onto the cover photo. You might have to adjust your cover photo image several times before you get it just right for your profile.

  • Profile Cover: 1584 x 396 px
  • Page Cover: 1584 x 396 px

Profile Photo: Your linkedin profile photo is in a circle format for your personal profile and a square format for your business page. Keep those in mind if you are using the same images as the aspect ratios differ quite a bit.

  • Profile Image: 400 x 400 px (round format)
  • Page Image 130 x 130 px (square format)

Post Photos: Linkedin posts really only have one size to consider for an image or link content. Pretty easy.

  • Share Image: 502 x 282 px
  • Share Link: 502 x 282 px
