Spooky Marketing Ideas for Your Small Business

Spooky marketing ideas

As if Halloween 2020 falling on a Saturday with a full moon ablaze isn’t scary enough, here are a few spooky marketing ideas for your small business.

Contests for the win!

Contests are fun and Halloween provides everyone with the perfect opportunity to be super creative! Increasing your business’s online presence by offering a fun online contest is a fantastic way to gain more engagement with your customers.

Idea 1

Put on a frightfully-fun Halloween contest. Maybe it’s a pumpkin carving contest themed around your small business. Example: If you operate a dental office, have a pumpkin carving contest for the pumpkin that has the best smile. Ask customers to take photos from home, post them on social media, and tag your business for a chance to win a gift basket of dental supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, etc.) or the prize of your choice. This is a great way to increase your reach and engagement on social media as well as remind your patients to keep their teeth clean during Halloween.

Giveaways with a purchase!

Everyone loves free stuff, even if we have to buy products to get something free. If you own a business, you may have already done giveaways as a promotion in the past. Did it work? If it didn’t, maybe it’s time to rethink how to do it differently.

Idea 2

Whether your business is a brick and mortar store or you operate solely online, a Halloween-themed giveaway can be a great way to encourage purchases. For instance: If you own a clothing store, give a small clothing item away for every purchase of $25 (or whatever that monetary number is) or more on Halloween merchandise, or offer a $5 gift card and attach some Halloween candy to the gift. Offering a gift card to your store is a great way to bring back customers and to gain new ones.

Bonus Points!

Racking up points toward rewards is one of my favorite things to do with the brands I adore. Especially when I can redeem the points for a new product… win!

Idea 3

If you don’t already have some type of reward point incentive program for your business, then any holiday is a great time to kick it off and it’s a program that you can continue to use throughout the year offering bonus points on holidays or for special events. Example: Words such as “double” or “triple” in front of the word “points” can send shoppers running through the doors of your business at record speed. That’s because, if they love your brand and they’re provided with an extra incentive to shop and rack up points, they will do just that. I mean who doesn’t want to be rewarded for shopping?

Halloween marketing is no big deal…or is it?

Halloween is the last major holiday before the biggest holiday season. Offering special incentives over Halloween such as gift cards and reward points can be extremely effective in amping up your sales for the holiday season which is just weeks away.

Always think ahead. What’s coming up? What can our business do now to create a positive impact on the next holiday or event? Use this time as a catalyst for the upcoming season. Holiday shopping is right around the corner and it’s the biggest shopping season of the year. You better believe that consumers look at their favorite businesses for deals!
